Frequently Asked Questions

How does laser scanning work?

The laser scanner records three-dimensional positions at a predetermined resolution (1mm upwards) over a chosen area, generating millions of high-accuracy coordinates by determining the elapsed time between sent and received pulses. Each point of the scan is then converted to a pixel with a known x, y, z and reflectance value so that the surface of a scanned structure can be represented as a dimensionally accurate point cloud in full 3D.

What is a GPR survey and how does it work?

A ground penetrating radar (GPR) survey measures variation in sub-surface conditions by sending a tiny pulse of energy into the ground from an antenna. An integrated computer records the strength and time required for the return of reflected signals. Any subsurface variations, metallic or non-metallic, will cause signals to bounce back, allowing detection of many types of pipe and cable as well as other potential hazards or obstructions.

Can you help with our document storage needs?

The simple fact is that no matter how well a document or drawing is stored it will over time suffer from a gradual but significant depreciation in its condition, space is also a consideration. Thousands of drawings require a vast area of expensive storage. For a very modest sum Scadin can scan your drawings and save them in an electronic format that would suit your requirements such as TiIF or PDF.

What software do you use for your floor plans?

Scadin use specialist MBS software for all our floor plans which allows for real time graphical capture of all the elements required for the production of scale drawings. The software shows the misclosure on site, in real-time, enabling the surveyor to immediately see where control measurements are needed to meet the accuracy requirements of the project.

What is Constructionline and why choose a registered firm?

Constructionline is a Government run scheme. Each month thousands of contractors and consultants apply for work with public and private sector organisations. In order to be awarded the relevant contract, the companies and individuals applying must meet health and safety standards. Scadin is registered with constructionline as a pre-qualified supplier.
